Catalina Partners’ engagement experience includes:

$200 Billion State Pension Plan
Selected to provide real estate consulting services for projects that may include operational due diligence reviews, financial and compliance audits, fee calculation verification, risk assessments, and real estate sector research.  Catalina Partners and its partner, Harb, Levy & Weiland LLP, will collaborate with real estate investment and compliance staff to satisfy its objectives for increased transparency and oversight.

$60 Billion State Pension Plan

Engaged by investment office to perform due diligence on real estate and other real assets held in portfolio. Awarded 5-year contract to assess compliance with agreements by testing valuations, cash flows and fees. Monitoring will also include strategic and business plan reviews and key personnel assignments for each investment project.

$2 Billion Foundation

Evaluated investment practices, policies and procedures for San Francisco-based foundation and underlying endowment. Developed alternative investments oversight program to satisfy deficiencies identified in management letter from external auditor. Performed valuation verification and due diligence for over 125 alternative investments in portfolio to satisfy FAS 157 requirements for audited financial statements.

$90 Million Hedge Fund Manager

Provided litigation support and expert witness testimony on behalf of a San Francisco-based hedge fund manager involved in an arbitration dispute over breach of fiduciary responsibility. Testified on behalf of client as to leading industry standards and best practices. Assisted lawyers with closing arguments and final procedural matters leading to the arbitration panel’s decisions.

$30 Million Emerging Manager
Developed a business strategy, operational model and business plan for an emerging manager specializing in global frontier markets.  Conducted an assessment of its business, operations and service provider network through interviews, data gathering and best practices comparisons.  As a result, processes, controls and accountability were clarified and strengthened.

$10 Million Hedge Fund Manager
Conducted business risk assessment of operations, compliance and client service for Los Angeles based manager. Evaluated processes, organizational structure, supporting technologies and legal agreements. Compared current state with PWG Hedge Fund Best Practices for Asset Managers and with SEC requirements. Identified gaps and developed remediation solutions.
